On July 30, 2023, a suicide bombing took place at a political gathering of the
leading Islamic party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) in northwest Pakistan,
resulting in the death of at least 44 people and leaving over 100 others
wounded.
Experts believe the attack was likely carried out by the Islamic State in
Khorasan Province (ISKP), an Islamic State branch in Afghanistan.
Professor Greg Barton from Deakin University stated that the ISKP has the
motive and capability to execute such an attack, as it is engaged in a rivalry
with the Taliban, to which the targeted political rally in Pakistan was closely
aligned.
The incident reflects the ongoing security challenges in the region, with
terrorist groups attempting to leverage
influence and pressure the Taliban regime in Kabul. |
