United States climate envoy John Kerry emphasized the urgency of cooperation
between China and the United States to address the global threat of climate
change during his visit to Beijing.
Meeting with China's top diplomat Wang Yi at the Great Hall of the People,
Kerry highlighted the need for "global leadership" on the issue, stressing that
climate change is a concern that affects all of humanity, not just two
countries.
Amidst record-setting summer heatwaves in the Northern Hemisphere, Kerry
called for joint action to reduce planet-warming emissions, hoping that the
meeting could mark the beginning of a new definition of cooperation between the
two nations.
China also expressed the need for a healthy and stable relationship,
recognizing climate change as a common challenge faced by all. The talks marked
a revival of climate diplomacy between the world's two largest polluters after
the dialogue stalled the previous year. |
