Sudan's capital, Khartoum, and the neighboring city of Bahri were rocked by air
strikes, tanks, and artillery on Friday, despite a 72-hour truce extension
announced by the army and rival paramilitary force, Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Since April 15, hundreds have been killed, and tens of thousands have fled in
the power struggle between the army and RSF, disabling a transition towards
democratic elections. The two-decade-old conflict in the western Darfur region
has been rekindled, and the fighting has
sent tens of thousands of refugees across Sudan's borders, threatening
instability across a volatile swathe of Africa. |
