On the 500th day of Russia's invasion, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited
Snake Island in the Black Sea, symbolizing Ukraine's defiance against Russia. He
praised Ukraine's bravery and expressed gratitude to the soldiers. Zelenskyy
also prayed for the war victims alongside Patriarch Bartholomew.
The conflict has claimed the lives of 9,000 civilians, including 500
children. During his trip to Turkey, Zelenskyy secured support for Ukraine's
NATO aspirations and obtained a US pledge for cluster munitions. The decision to
supply these weapons was criticized by humanitarian groups.
Efforts to mediate the conflict have so far been unsuccessful. Turkish
President Erdogan expressed unequivocal
support for Ukraine's NATO membership and planned a meeting with Russian
President Putin.
Zelenskyy's visit to Snake Island showcased Ukraine's resilience, with a
famous radio exchange between Ukrainian soldiers and Russian forces serving as a
symbol of defiance. |
