Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed to crush an armed mutiny led by the
chief of the Wagner mercenary force, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who claimed control of
the southern city of Rostov-on-Don in an attempt to topple Russia's military
leadership.
Putin addressed the nation in a televised speech, labeling the mutineers as
"traitors" and promising to punish them. The situation, which remains
shrouded in uncertainty, appears to be the
most significant domestic crisis Putin has faced since the invasion of Ukraine
last year.
The Russian president emphasized the gravity of the situation and assured the
public that decisive action would be taken to stabilize Rostov-on-Don. |
