The White House has called upon the CEOs of Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and
Anthropic to address the potential dangers of generative artificial intelligence
(AI) and to encourage the companies to assume their "moral" duty to protect
society.
Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the need for companies to adhere to
existing laws to safeguard American citizens and to guarantee the safety and
security of their products.
President Joe Biden echoed the same sentiment, urging the tech industry to
educate the government on the most pressing needs to shield society from the
enormous potential and danger of AI.
The meeting also announced new measures to expand AI research and establish
an assessment system that would work with big tech to address issues.
The absence of regulations has led to Silicon Valley's
unbridled development of new AI products, raising concerns that
such technologies may wreak havoc on society before the government can catch up. |
