Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs has accused Richard Branson, the British
billionaire, of disrespecting the country's judges and criminal justice system
by alleging that Singapore may be about to kill an innocent man.
Branson made this claim on Monday in his blog post entitled "Why Tangaraju
Suppiah doesn't deserve to die." Tangaraju Suppiah is a Singaporean citizen who
was convicted of abetting the trafficking of
over 1kg of cannabis and was sentenced to death in 2018.
The ministry stated that Branson's claims were patently untrue, and it was
regrettable that he would purport to know more about the case than Singapore’s
Courts, which had examined the case thoroughly and comprehensively over a period
of more than three years. |
